Brother Tim’s Thoughts
Dear Church Family,
It is difficult to believe that we are all ready at the holiday season. Our lives are so busy, and it seems the older we are, the faster the years fly by. The acceleration of time should remind us of the brevity of our lives. The most important thing is not to be invested in the things of this life, but the things of the next life. Every time I bury someone, I am keenly aware that they take nothing with them when they die. As Job said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.”Job 1:21 The most important thing is not what we have in our hand but Who we have in our heart. We are made to praise the Lord, not only for time, but also for eternity. May we not spend our time to accumulate things that only our hands can hold, but neglect the One who is made for our heart. We are people who can be “content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”Php 4:12-13 Since that is the case we can “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”1 Th 5:18
Determine that for each complaint you voice that you will give thanks to God for ten things that He has blessed you with. We have so much to be thankful for. The holiday season should be characterized by thanksgiving, not greed. It should be characterized by thanksgiving, not increase in debt. It should be characterized by thanksgiving, not stress. It should be characterized by thanksgiving, not indulgence. It should be characterized by thanksgiving, not jealousy. It should be characterized by thanksgiving, not deceit. It should be characterized by thanksgiving, not self destructive habits. It should be characterized by thanksgiving, not nursing a grudge. It should be characterized by thanksgiving because the King of Kings and Lord of Lords lives in us! Because we have an eternal hope that cannot be taken from us. “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”2 Co 9:15
